STDs never get old: Rapping the safer sex message to older people

Regular visitors to my website will have spotted that I’ve blogged about sexually transmitted infections (STIs) or diseases (STDs) in older age groups before. I’ve also had the privilege to work with colleagues who are doing fantastic research on the topic in Australia and Scotland.

What we can say for certain is that diagnoses of STIs in older adults are increasing in many developed countries, and have been for years. But safer sex promotion campaigns for older adults are in the minority.

A few organisations have used innovative methods to get the safer sex message across to older adults. There are some examples here. All of them take a light-hearted approach to a serious topic, and this new offering is no different.

Medical doctor, Shannon Dowler, penned a rap to Vanilla Ice’s ‘Ice Ice Baby’ song. She has called it STDs Never Get Old. Take a look, the video is below. Enjoy!
