UK’s first Sexual Rights Charter launched to tackle age discrimination

On 24th March 2022 we launched our Sexual Rights Charter for Older Adults. Developed in partnership with Age-friendly Sheffield, the Charter aims to tackle the discrimination that people can face regarding sexuality as they get older.

Sexual and intimate relationships are important to millions of people aged in their 50s, 60s, and beyond. And while sexual rights apply to all of us (they are human rights afterall), the older we get the more likely we are to be denied these rights.

The Charter is for the public, health and social care professionals, community and voluntary workforce, researchers, educators, and policy-makers. By incorporating the Charter into our work, we can make a difference to the lives of people as they age by recognising sexual agency, respecting diversity, and tackling ageism.

Visit agesexandrights.com to learn more and download the suite of Charter materials. Further details about the Charter are on the University of Sheffield news page.
