I’m excited to tell you about a project that has just started Sex, Age & Me which will explore older Australians’ knowledge of, and safe sex practices in relation to, sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
As many of us know, diagnoses of STIs in the 50 years and older age groups have been increasing year-on-year in a number of countries. And it’s an issue I’ve blogged about a few times already.
The project aims to contribute towards the development of policy and educational resources for older Australians, and will work towards enabling optimal sexual health for older people.
Funded by the Australian Research Council, the project will run for 3 years and is being led by colleagues at the Australian Research Centre in Sex, Health and Society at La Trobe University.
Project team: Dr Anthony Lyons; Prof Victor Minichiello; Dr Catherine Barrett; Dr Graham Brown; Dr Sharron Hinchliff; Prof Briony Dow; Ms Josephine Root
I’ll post updates about the project on my blog. Watch this space!
